About
In a world where artificially-intelligent beings are campaigning for equality amongst humans, three friends were smart enough to become private investigators.
Follow private investigator Madison “Maddy” McGee and her team as they attempt to solve cases for which the proper authorities don’t have the time. In Maddy’s world robots walk the streets alongside humans, and crime is still as rampant as ever.
Madini Investigations Group
They’ve only known each other for a few years, but these three college grads are almost like family to each other. They all grew up very differently, but the chemistry between the trio is perfect. So when Maddy suggested the idea they become small-time private investigators, the other two didn’t hesitate to agree.
The name “Madini” is a portmanteau of their names—Maddy, Dick, Nico—which sits as an example of their dedication to their group and their shared goal of helping whomever they are able to.
Madison “Maddy” McGee
Head of a private investigation team and a graduate in international law, Maddy has always been a bit “Mad”. Or at the very least odd.
At the age of twelve her parents were murdered in their Edinburgh home. The case was never solved, leaving Maddy devastated. She also lost an arm and a leg in the attack and (for a while) her mind. However, after two years in a mental institution, Maddy was fit to join the real world again. She then moved in with her loving aunt Amanda, and started anew in New York.
There, Maddy worked in her Aunt’s bakery until University, where she met Professor Jim Michael. Falling in love with her professor’s work (going above and beyond her science-credit requirement for an international law degree), Maddy volunteered as Jim’s assistant, until he took her on as a test subject. Now Maddy refers to her mentor as her “mechanic”, the creator of her robotic prostheses.
University was also where she met her two closest friends, Nico and Dick. When they finished their degrees they quickly decided to form a private detective agency together. There, Maddy decided to lend a helping hand to anyone, or anything, that falls through the cracks of official law enforcement.
Richard “Dick” Jones
Tragically named after the antagonist of a classic sci-fi flick, Dick grew up as the youngest in a large family of movie fanatics. That said, he’s the only art major of the brood, while the rest took up careers as chemists, engineers, doctors, and biologists.
While his degree doesn’t explicitly apply to being a private detective, it doesn’t stop him from drawing on any talent he can to help. And he does have talent. Dick fits the old American stereotype: he treats guns as a hobby and is an expert marksman. As well, he is very efficient in interviewing clients and advertising the company’s public image.
Dick and Nico dated during their senior year at NYU and were engaged soon after graduation.
Nicoleta “Nico” Rossi
When it comes to being inquisitive in the name of science, Nico is a true master. Graduating from NYU’s Computer Science program, Nico is a tech expert and can navigate just about any system with ease. An invaluable member of the team, Nico creates most of their gadgets and programs from scratch, and is known for giving Maddy the occasional cybernetic-update. However, Nico’s ingenious mind comes from a bit of a troubled past.
Kicked out of her parent’s house at seventeen for dating another girl, Nico has been on her own for years. Born in Italy, Nico left her homeland for America (partly to get as far away from her family as possible), and that was where she eventually met Dick and Maddy, her two closest friends.
Eventually Nico found herself smitten with Dick, but she won’t be inviting her parents to any upcoming weddings.

Original Pilot Chapter, “Little Motel”
A comic initially created by Peter for a college graphic design group project with Jesus Castaneda, Peter decided to continue MADDY McGEE, P.I. on his own as a webcomic (with Jesus’ best wishes). About a year later, Britt joined as co-writer, becoming a big part of the creative process.
Chronologically, the original chapter “Little Motel” actually takes place some years after “Sometime Around Midnight.” To make things easier, we decided to revise the series by making “Sometime” the first official chapter in the series. As well, “Motel” will be recreated as a chapter in the future.
While it’s no longer canon, if you wish to read the “original pilot” of this comic, you may still do so!
